Resin art is a popular form of mixed media artwork that combines epoxy resin with various pigments, glitters, and other decorative elements. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just starting out, creating stunning resin art can be a fun and rewarding experience. In this post, we’ll share five essential tips to help you create beautiful resin art pieces that are sure to impress.
1. Choose the Right Epoxy Resin
Not all epoxy resins are created equal, so it’s important to choose the right one for your project. Look for a high-quality, low-odor, and UV-resistant resin that dries clear and won’t yellow over time. Additionally, be sure to use the correct ratio of resin and hardener to avoid uneven curing or stickiness.

2. Keep your Surface and Yourself Safe
Before pouring your resin, make sure you have protected your workspace from resin spills. Resin is an awful material to clean up after a spill and once it has cured, it is almost impossible. So, it is very important to protect your workspace. It is also very important to protect yourself, as resin is a chemical. 3. Experiment with different pigments and additives
Resin art is all about experimentation, so don’t be afraid to try new pigments, glitter, or other additives to create unique effects. Mix and match colors, layer them, or use a heat gun or torch to create interesting patterns and textures.
One of the best parts of working with resin is that there are so many different pigments and materials that can be mixed into the resin. This allows the artist to create awesome, never been done before, effects in their artwork.
I have put together a tutorial where I use tons of different pigments in one awesome resin wall art piece. The video lists all the different pigments I used so you can get some inspiration. Check out the video here: What Can I Mix with Resin to Create Effects?

4. Take Your Time and Be Patient
Creating resin art can be a time-consuming process, so make sure you set aside enough time to complete your project. Don’t rush the curing process or try to speed up the drying time with heat, as this can cause the resin to crack or warp. Instead, be patient and allow your artwork to cure at its own pace.
We know how exciting it can be to finish your first resin art project, but trust us, you do not want to rush a demold. Leave your piece, whether casting or wall art, to set until it is completely cured. Any movement could also dust to get into the resin or throw your casting off level. Even if you think the epoxy resin is ‘cured enough,’ it is not. Just wait the extra couple of hours. It is so worth it in the end!
5. Practice, practice, practice
Like any art form, resin art takes practice to perfect. Don’t be discouraged if your first few attempts don’t turn out the way you want them to. Keep experimenting, trying new techniques, and learning from your mistakes. With time and practice, you’ll be able to create stunning resin art pieces that you’re proud of.
You can see by the number of tutorials on this site and on Craftelot’s YouTube channel that I did not learn these resin art techniques overnight. Thankfully, you get to learn from my mistakes which give you an advantage if you are just starting out. I have worked with Resin before making GPS antenna Caps for aircraft carriers, and I know that stuff is extremely sticky and hard to remove from your hands when in contact with your skin.
It's extremely important to where protective equipment when working with resin, I agree. Now I never thought about it for implementing it into art.
I have saw products made like coffee tables made from Resin, but the idea of earrings looks amazing. Good article!

Hi! I have found your website very helpful personally for me. Because I am a teddy bear and an artistic toy artist. In my creations, I use different materials, including the resin. I am curious if you have resin to create glass eyes, and if you have elastic resin to make animal paws? From where do you ship, please?
Hi Hanna, we actually do not sell our own resin, but we review all of the best products on the market.
I can safely say that one of my favorite UV resin recommendations is Let's Resin UV Resin. You can find them here: Let's Resin UV Resin. I believe they only ship to the US. However, you can order it on Amazon as well. Here is the link to the Amazon store.
I have put together a guide of my favorite UV resins here. You can use any of them to make your doll eyes and some of those will ship internationally.
As far as elastic resin goes, I am not as familiar with it as I have not had the pleasure of creating figurines. I would not want to steer you in the wrong direction. If I come across any that would work, I will definitely update this response, or if any of our readers has an answer, please feel free to comment!
I really hope I was at least a little helpful with this response. Have a great evening!
